All worries melt away under the Bali sun.

Under the Bali sun, I can ‘hear troubles melt like lemon drops,’ no, wait, like beads of sweat on my neck.

My very first day after arrival in Bali, I had a conversation with a spiritual master for 5.5 hours!

N​o trip to California needed!​

After 2.5 years teaching English, I’ve learned a valuable skill that I did not have before: remembering people’s names.

It usually only took me 2 sessions to know my class all by their first names; and now after close to 500 students, I still remember 90% of their names.

Here in Bali, this skill comes in handy dandy! The Balinese are so great at remembering foreigners’ names. You meet them once, or twice, and 4 months later you return they would still recognize you and call out your name!

“Hello Emily!”

I froze for a moment. Oh cr*p, what’s her name?… 1 second later…. Ahhh! Suti! Ahhh! Juni! Ahhhh! Abut! I remember now.

It can only get better from here.

Ubud, Bali.

Everything looked the same.

I’m very convinced now that there are coexisting, parallel universes.

Which leads me to think that it’s high time for me to change my passport (literally!! Like yeah, a new & dry one).

On the plane, I had this thought: Wow, how ludicrous it would be for me to get up, go find the pilot and tell him, “Hey! Let me take over. I know how to do this. Let me fly to XYZ.”

That would be insane.

But our mind does that all the time, wanting to take charge, struggling to figure its way through everything, always thinking it knows best. Oh yah.

Why not let the Universe be the pilot and us be the passengers? Tell Him where you want to go, then sit back and surrender. Let Him orchestrate the activities, steer the plane, be your captain and deliver you there.

Safe and sound. Effortlessly.

I looked around the plane and saw so many passionate, loving couples: couple that couldn’t keep their lips off each other, couples that painted fingernails together (the guy held the nail polishing bottle in his fist while his girlfriend leaned one hand on it, her other hand painting), couple that played cards on the tray tables together, couple on the first row that made out tirelessly throughout the 3-hour flight, surely, throughout the safety demonstration too.

I thought to myself: “Wow, finally, all is well with the planet! World peace is in the air, love vibrations prevail!!”

Only then did I realize the destination I was flying into.

Helloooo, Emily??!!!
It’s Bali!!
You’re the rare species here, going to Bali alone.

I almost burst out laughing.
